Mexico in Style!

Instead of celebrating July 4th weekend here in the states I took a much needed vacation to beautiful Cancun, Mexico. I journeyed not only for a little R&R, but to attend the wedding of one of my dearest friends. I’ve been planning for this vacation since the first of the year and by planning I mean shopping for the perfect fashion pieces to help me shine during my Cancun vacation. In my last blog I shared how you can pack light for a European vacation and in this blog I will share with you how I packed for a tropical beach vacation!
First up, the most important item to have for a beach vacation, the swimsuit. I, like many of you, can be a little self conscious when it comes to trying on swimsuits. I think I need to lose some extra pounds, go tanning, or tone that butt a little more. I am here to tell you on the beach in Mexico there are all types of women made up of different colors, shapes, and sizes and they all work a bikini or one piece perfectly. Don’t be self conscious be comfortable in your own skin and choose the swimsuit that makes you feel the most comfortable don’t worry what others think.  For me as I get older I tried for a little more modesty, but still sexy swimsuit choices.
I brought three swimsuits with me and two were purchased on Amazon.com. I received many compliments on my swimsuits at the beach and many were surprised where I found them. When it came to looking for swimsuits initially, I found that many stores lacked variety and other stores and websites were too expensive. I need to give credit to my husband for suggesting Amazon.com. He’s an Amazon Prime Member so he is always shopping on Amazon. The best part about being a Prime member is certain items have free 2 day shipping and free returns. When it came to bathing suits Amazon.com had a huge variety ranging from $100 suits to swim suits under $25 and with the free returns and 2 day shipping it made it easy to shop and try on swimsuits and exchange/return the items I didn’t want. The first bathing suit I got was a two piece with high wasted floral bottoms for $22 and the second was a pink leopard print monokini for $20 that made for quite the statement swimsuit.

The third swim suit I wanted to keep basic and where else does one shop for basics? Old Navy of course!  I purchased a backless teal one piece for on sale for 50% off making it $22.

Second item on the list, once you find the perfect swimsuit, you need the perfect swim cover up! Like the swimsuits I found beach cover ups equally hard to find. Most stores carried the basic cover ups or cover ups that were too flashy. I wanted something comfortable and had a fun simple design perfect for getting from hotel room to beach! I was able to find two cover ups that suited my needs. If you are like me and you are particular when it comes to beach cover ups you can always buy simple knit dresses that are easy to pull on and off. I was able to find a couple at Target, Forever 21, and Old Navy. At Old Navy I was able to snag the perfect floral cover up to go with my one piece and the best part, it was included in the 50% swim sale!
The second beach cover up I found was at H&M and it was one of their great finds for a great deal items. I found an Aztec print cover up for only $9.99!

Once I found all my items for the beach, packing for the rest of the trip was easy. I was staying on an all inclusive resort. There were no activities that did not involve water so the only other item I needed were dresses! I brought many dresses I already owned, but I wanted a few new ones that were beach vacation ready. Through my shopping travels I found a good variety of fun summer dresses at Marshals. I snagged an easy everyday printed cotton dress for $16 and a blue patterned trapeze dress for $17, perfect for a night out in Mexico.

My favorite dress that I purchased for my Mexico trip was the dress I wore to my friend’s wedding. It was a little out of my comfort zone because it was completely backless except for the crisscross straps that held it together, but I couldn’t resist the Aztec print and the lightweight maxi bottom. It was the perfect dress for a Mexico vacation and the length made it formal enough for a beach wedding. I found this dress at Forever21 for only $30!

Throw in some statement jewelry and sandals and your ready for a beach get away. I hope you enjoyed my shopping excursion to ready myself for my vacation and as always I hope that I inspire you and helped you find the perfect items to pack for a beach vacation!

  1. We had an amazing event here this past weekend. We had a friend create some custom drink options that the bartenders served throughout the night and the designer easily collaborated with the space at Los Angeles wedding venues to address her needs.
